The incident in front of the headquarters of the US intelligence agency triggered an unprecedented security operation. The alarm ended with the arrest of the suspect

A gunman caused alarm in front of the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, triggering a large law enforcement operation. The operation involved special teams, bomb squads and the FBI, and the surrounding streets were closed. The incident, which kept tensions high for hours, ended with no injuries and the arrest of the suspect, who had pointed a gun at the building but did not fire it.

All this happened the day after the publication of thousands of secret documents relating to the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, creating further concern about possible threats to national security. The alert was triggered at 10 a.m. local time when a man was reported to be ‘in the throes of a nervous breakdown’ in front of the CIA entrance.

Despite initial reports of shots fired and a barricaded suspect, the situation was quickly handled by Swat special forces and bomb squads who cleared the area. A CIA spokesman said more details would be released later.

This is not the first time that the Langley headquarters has been targeted. In January 1993, a similar attack ended with the death of two CIA employees by Pakistani Mir Aimal Kansi, who acted for political reasons related to US policy in the Middle East. Kansi was captured, tried and executed in 2002.
