Robert F. Kennedy Jr cocaine admission sparks backlash in US

The Robert F. Kennedy Jr cocaine admission during a podcast interview has triggered political backlash and calls for resignation in the United States. Health secretary comments about past drug use during COVID draw criticism

Podcast comments about past addiction and COVID period – The Robert F. Kennedy Jr cocaine admission is drawing strong reactions across the United States after the US health secretary spoke about his past substance abuse during a podcast interview.

Speaking on The Past Weekend, hosted by Theo Von, Robert F. Kennedy Jr said that during the COVID emergency he continued going to work without fear of infection, referencing past behavior linked to his addiction.

“I didn’t care what would happen because I’m not afraid of germs. I was snorting cocaine off toilet tank lids,” Kennedy said, referring to his past and decades spent recovering from alcohol and drug abuse.

He added that addiction remains a lifelong disease requiring constant treatment. “I know this disease will kill me if I don’t treat it. That’s why I went to meetings every day. For me, it was a matter of survival,” he said.

The Robert F. Kennedy Jr cocaine admission quickly circulated across political and public health circles after the interview aired.

Political and advocacy backlash after the interview

Following the Robert F. Kennedy Jr cocaine admission, Protect Our Care, a nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to healthcare in the United States, called for his resignation.

Criticism also came from Malcolm Kenyatta, a Democratic lawmaker from Pennsylvania, who wrote on X that he does not trust Kennedy on public health issues.

The controversy adds to ongoing debate around Kennedy’s public positions on health policy, vaccines, and medical regulation.
