Tesla boss: “It damages the industries of the future, putting millions of jobs at risk in the United States”

Elon Musk has once again launched a fierce attack on the new spending bill pushed through by US President Donald Trump. In a post published on X, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX described the measure as ‘totally insane and destructive’, warning that it could ‘destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic damage’ to the country.

The bill, dubbed by Trump himself as the “big, beautiful bill”, provides generous state subsidies for traditional industries such as fossil fuels, petrol cars and heavy manufacturing.

Musk, who left the Trump administration a month ago after a heated clash with the president, criticised the bill, accusing it of favouring ‘the industries of the past’ at the expense of those of the future, such as electric cars, artificial intelligence and renewable energy.

‘It’s a law that looks backward rather than forward, and risks undermining the United States’ technological advantage in crucial sectors,’ added the billionaire, who for months has been promoting a more innovative American industry that is less dependent on traditional federal subsidies.

The comment reignited the confrontation between Musk and Trump, whose relationship has deteriorated in recent months. When presenting the bill, the president spoke of ‘a revolutionary plan to revive American industry,’ but according to many observers, the package ignores emerging and high-growth sectors.

The clash between two of America’s most influential figures is also likely to weigh on the political debate ahead of the 2028 presidential election, fuelling a rift between different visions of economic and industrial development.
