Israeli PM’s office confirms plans to remove Hamas and the Palestinian Authority from the Gaza Strip
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office reiterated the Israeli government’s firm intention not to allow either Hamas or the Palestinian National Authority to have a presence in the Gaza Strip after the end of the war. Netanyahu emphasised his commitment to the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to create a ‘different Gaza’.
This plan, strongly contested by the entire Arab world, envisages the relocation of the Strip’s residents and the reconstruction of the area by the US, turning it into what has been called a ‘Middle East Riviera’.
The Prime Minister’s statement comes after reports appeared today in Arab media suggesting a Hamas deal to cede control of Gaza to the Palestinian National Authority, a hypothesis denied by Netanyahu’s office.
