Louis Prevost, a long-time supporter of the Maga movement, met with President and Vice President Vance at the White House after the pontificate commencement ceremony at St. Peter’s
Louis Prevost, older brother of Pope Leo XIV, was received by US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. The visit was immortalised in a photograph first circulated on Facebook by Prevost himself, and then re-posted on X by presidential advisor Margo Martin. In the image, Prevost and his wife Deborah pose next to the president and Vice President JD Vance, smiling behind the Resolute desk.
The meeting also aroused curiosity and comment because of Prevost’s explicit reference to the Maga movement, of which he is a long-time supporter. Trump, speaking to reporters shortly before the meeting, said: ‘I like the Pope and I like the Pope’s brother. Do you know that he lives in Florida? It’s for the Maga and for me. I can’t wait to welcome him to the White House, I want to shake his hand and hug him’.
Louis Prevost’s visit to the White House came a few days after the solemn celebration at the Vatican that marked the official start of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate. The Pontiff’s brother and his wife were in fact present last Sunday in St Peter’s Square, among the thousands of faithful and international dignitaries who attended the new Pope’s inauguration mass.
