According to the Washington Post, the White House is considering direct administration of the Strip. Fears of famine are growing

The plan proposed by Washington – An alleged plan by Donald Trump’s US administration for the Gaza Strip is provoking strong reactions. According to reports by Al Arabiya and the Washington Post, the White House is considering the creation of a US-controlled “trusteeship” for at least ten years. The stated goal would be to transform the territory into a tourist and technological hub, with the temporary transfer of the population in the meantime.

The plan, writes the American newspaper, would include both “voluntary” departures to other countries and the relocation of civilians to protected and fenced-off areas within Gaza.

Hamas’ response – ‘Hamas categorically rejects any suggestion of political or territorial expropriation. Gaza is part of the wider Palestinian homeland,‘ said Bassem Naim, a member of the Islamist movement’s political bureau, stressing that ’Gaza is not for sale”.

Another official, who remained anonymous, spoke to AFP, saying: ‘We reject all these plans that abandon our people and keep the occupier on our land. These proposals are worthless and unjust.’

The humanitarian emergency – While political hypotheses are being discussed, the humanitarian crisis continues to worsen. The Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that nine Palestinians, including three minors, died of starvation and malnutrition in the last day.

Since the start of the war on 7 October 2023, according to the same data, the number of victims of famine has risen to 348, including 127 minors. In the last week alone, since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared famine in Gaza City, 70 people have lost their lives, including 12 children.
