Car Hits Crowd at Nunspeet Christmas Parade, Nine Injured

At least nine people were injured in a Nunspeet Christmas parade accident in the Netherlands. Police say it appears accidental, while emergency teams respond swiftly

At least nine people were injured today, Monday, December 22, in the town of Nunspeet in the central-eastern Dutch province of Gelderland, when a car drove into a crowd gathered for the annual Christmas lights parade. Three of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.

According to the Dutch newspaper Telegraaf, police believe the incident was accidental and not intentional, although investigations are ongoing. “At first glance, it does not appear to be a deliberate act, but we are still investigating,” the Nunspeet police wrote on X.

Rob Jetten, who is expected to become the next Dutch Prime Minister, expressed his concern: “My thoughts are with the injured and their families. Huge gratitude and respect to the emergency services providing the best possible care.”

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Italy in The Hague are monitoring the situation. In a post on X, the ministry stated, “We are following the situation in Nunspeet, where a car struck a crowd gathered for a Christmas parade. Checks are underway to confirm any possible involvement of Italian citizens.”

The investigation continues, and authorities are gathering witness statements and reviewing security footage from the parade to understand how the car entered the crowd.
