Musk pushes for drastic cuts in US deficit: ‘Let’s avoid bankruptcy’… With a chainsaw!
Tycoon Elon Musk presents the Department’s plan for government efficiency, aiming to reduce waste and fraud to save the US economy
Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), made his debut during his first meeting with Donald Trump’s government by sounding a strong warning: the United States risks bankruptcy if action is not taken quickly to reduce the deficit. According to the tycoon, a $2 trillion deficit is no longer sustainable and requires immediate action.
“It is not a choice, but a necessity. That’s the reason I’m here, despite the criticism and threats I’m receiving,” Musk said, outlining a plan to cut 15 percent of the federal budget, focusing on reducing fraud and waste. Doge’s goal is to save $4 billion every day through September to ensure the country’s financial stability. “We can do it,” Musk added, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Among his first actions, Musk sent an email to all federal employees, asking them to list five tasks they had performed in the previous week. The initiative was perceived as a performance review, but the tycoon explained that it was more of a “pulse check,” to make sure employees were active and productive. “We expect those who do essential work to do it well; those who don’t should not burden taxpayers,” he said.
Musk also acknowledged that the plan will not be perfect and that there will be mistakes, but he promised that his team will act quickly to correct any problems, keeping the focus on sustainable savings for the country’s future.
