This was confirmed by CIA director John Ratcliffe, who explained that “a series of credible evidence” indicates the destruction of several key facilities, which will have to be “rebuilt over the years”. The information comes from an internal source considered highly reliable.
The Pentagon prepares a press conference on the attacks
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth will hold a press conference today at 2 p.m. (Italian time) described by President Donald Trump as ‘interesting and indisputable.’ On Truth Social, the president said that the pilots involved in the raid ‘were very upset’ about the leak that called into question the effectiveness of the operation. Trump spoke of ‘a devastating attack, comparable to Hiroshima and Nagasaki,’ claiming that Iran has been completely deprived of its ability to build a nuclear weapon.
Disagreements between the White House and military intelligence
The White House’s assessment contrasts with that of the Defence Intelligence Agency, which says the US bombings only slowed Iran’s nuclear programme by a few months. The preliminary analysis was reported by CNN and other media outlets, but the US administration dismissed it as ‘wrong’ and the result of misinformation. Trump accused the media of ‘distorting the facts’, with particular reference to CNN and the New York Times.
Khamenei disappeared from the radar after the conflict with Israel
Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei has not appeared in public for over a week. According to the New York Times, during the twelve days of war with Israel, he hid in a bunker, avoiding any electronic communication. Even after the ceasefire, the Ayatollah remained invisible, fuelling doubts about his real condition and his actual role in strategic decisions. Iranian sources report that many officials have had no direct contact with him in recent days.
High alert in Iran: arrests and executions for espionage
Iranian intelligence services remain on alert. The semi-official Tasnim agency reports that, despite the cessation of military operations with Israel, hostile activities such as the dissemination of disinformation and the collection of sensitive data continue. Iranian media report dozens of arrests and even executions linked to suspected espionage.
Trump defends Netanyahu: “A hero on trial, scandalous”
In his latest post on Truth Social, Donald Trump made an appeal in favour of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, praising him as “one of the greatest warriors in the history of Israel”. The president harshly attacked the Israeli justice system for the ongoing trial against Netanyahu, calling it a “witch hunt” fuelled by political motives. ‘He deserves a pardon, not a courtroom,’ Trump wrote.
Abraham Accords: new signatories and talks with Iran
Steve Witkoff, US special envoy for the Middle East, told CNBC that new countries are set to join the Abraham Accords. At the same time, talks are underway with Iran on the future of its nuclear programme. ‘We are aiming for an agreement on a civilian programme, but without enrichment,’ Witkoff said, pointing to signs of openness from Tehran.
