While Hamas says it is ready for the next phase of talks, Netanyahu seeks Washington’s full support before committing to the second phase of the truce but its primary goal remains the total eradication of Hamas

Hamas says it is ‘ready’ to resume negotiations with Israel on the second phase of the truce agreement. This was reported by an official of the Palestinian group, suggesting that negotiations could enter a new phase.

Meanwhile, according to the Israeli daily Haaretz, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on a visit to Washington, is aiming to obtain full support from the US before committing to the next phase of the agreement. Israel’s stated goal remains the elimination of Hamas as a condition for complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, including the Philadelphia Corridor, the strip of territory bordering Egypt that is considered strategic for the control of traffic in the region.

Release of two hostages in priority

Israeli sources also report that among the first points of the second phase of the agreement would be the release of two hostages with dual Russian-Israeli passports: Maxim Herkin, kidnapped on 7 October during the Nova festival, and Sasha Trufanov. The news was confirmed by Moussa Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas official.
