The Monegasque flies at the Hungaroring: beating Piastri and Norris’ McLarens. Hamilton only 12th, Verstappen eighth
A Ferrari finally ahead of the pack. Charles Leclerc takes pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix, giving the Scuderia its first pole start of the season. At the Hungaroring, the Monegasque stopped the clock at 1:15.372, ahead of the two McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in a very close qualifying session.
Behind them, George Russell was fourth in his Mercedes, followed by the Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Gabriel Bortoleto was seventh, ahead of an unusually struggling Max Verstappen, who was only eighth. Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar also made it into the top ten.
Lewis Hamilton was out of the top ten, only 12th, despite the penalty imposed on Andrea Kimi Antonelli (track limits) which allowed him to gain a position. The young Italian, who initially set the eleventh fastest time, will start from fifteenth on the grid.
Tomorrow’s race promises to be intense. After a difficult few months, Ferrari is back among the leaders. And Leclerc, with a car that is finally competitive on a single lap, wants to give it his all to bring the Prancing Horse back to the top step of the podium.
