The Kremlin accelerates production and deployment. Trump warns, but Moscow advances: 713 km² conquered in July

Despite repeated warnings from US President Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin is not slowing down his offensive in Ukraine and is relaunching the Kremlin’s military plans. Visiting the Valaam monastery with his Belarusian ally Alexander Lukashenko, the Russian president announced that Russia has already started production of the new Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missiles, which are set to be deployed in Belarus by the end of 2025.

‘We are completing the preparatory work and will most likely finish before the end of the year,’ Putin said, adding that the first series has already been produced and incorporated into the armed forces. The launch sites in Belarus, he added, have already been identified.

Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine continues unabated. ‘We are advancing across the entire front line,’ Putin had declared just 24 hours earlier, reiterating the need for peace that guarantees lasting security for Moscow. This condition seems far off at the moment, as the Kremlin ignores the White House’s requests to sit down at the negotiating table.

The sanctions announced by the United States have so far failed to change the Russian government’s stance, which has instead intensified its offensive. According to an AFP analysis based on data from the Institute for the Study of War, in July the Russian army made its largest advance since November, conquering 713 km² of Ukrainian territory, compared to only 79 km² recovered by Kiev.

The Russian offensive is growing steadily: 588 km² in June, 507 in May, 379 in April, and 240 in March. This progression is fuelling Western concerns and underscoring the urgency, invoked by Trump, of finding a political solution before the conflict enters a new, more dangerous phase.
