Trump calls for free passage through the Panama and Suez canals: Mulino’s response
‘American ships, both commercial and military, should be able to pass through the Panama and Suez canals for free’. This was stated by Donald Trump through a message posted on the social Truth, claiming that without US intervention these canals would not exist.

The US president also announced that he had instructed Secretary Rubio to deal with the issue as a matter of urgency.

Panama’s president, José Raúl Mulino, was not long in reply, reiterating on X that the transit and related costs of vessels in the Panama Canal are regulated by the Neutrality Treaty and the Canal Organic Law. ‘There is no agreement to the contrary,’ Mulino pointed out, emphasising that it is exclusively up to the Canal Administration to establish the arrangements in compliance with the regulations in force.

There is currently no official reaction from the Egyptian authorities on the Suez Canal.
