California prepares lawsuit against Trump-imposed tariffs
Governor Gavin Newsom announces legal action to block tariffs: ‘Illegal measure, threatens economy and families’
California is preparing to openly challenge President Donald Trump’s trade policy. In the coming hours, the state led by Governor Gavin Newsom will file a lawsuit against the duties imposed by the administration, accusing them of being ‘illegal’ and harmful to the national economy.
‘Trump’s illegal tariffs are wreaking havoc on families, businesses and the economy,’ Newsom said, ’raising prices and threatening jobs.
California’s action represents the first major judicial challenge to the recently introduced tariffs, and could pave the way for other legal challenges from affected states or industries.
According to sources close to the file, the lawsuit will challenge not only the legal legality of the tariffs, but also the lack of consultation with local authorities and the negative impact on the West Coast’s manufacturing fabric.
