Zelensky criticizes his country’s exclusion from negotiations in Saudi Arabia. Three steps to end the conflict: ceasefire, elections in Ukraine, and a final agreement
Russia and the United States outlined a three-step plan to end the war in Ukraine during talks held in Riyadh, with no Ukrainian representatives present at the table. According to broadcaster Fox News, the road map initially calls for a ceasefire, followed by the holding of elections in Ukraine and the signing of a peace agreement. Elections could be one of the central points of the deal, as the Kremlin seems to prefer a more flexible (and perhaps even pro-Russian) Ukrainian leader than current President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Analysts speculate that Zelensky’s re-election is unlikely, while Trump would be willing to accept any election outcome, even the possible election of a pro-Russian candidate.
Zelensky has strongly criticized the talks, claiming that the Ukrainian situation is being discussed without including Kiev. For its part, the United States and Russia agreed to form high-level teams to accelerate the peace process, as confirmed by the U.S. State Department spokesman.
