While Iranian citizens receive minimal aid, the government funnels massive funds to Hezbollah, fueling outrage amid economic collapse

$7 per month for Iranians, $1,800 for Hezbollah: the regime’s absurd priorities – A new plan by the Iranian government has sparked outrage among citizens and observers alike. Under the scheme, each Iranian will receive only $7 per month in direct subsidies, while members of Hezbollah are allocated $1,800 per month, fully funded by Iranian taxpayers.

The measure, announced in the midst of Iran’s ongoing economic crisis, replaces a previous system of indirect import subsidies, which had been criticized for corruption and favoritism. With inflation rates between 42% and 52% and the rial collapsing to over 1.4 million per U.S. dollar, ordinary citizens face basic living costs exceeding $200 monthly, making the $7 allotment practically symbolic.

Mass protests have erupted across dozens of cities —the largest since 2022— featuring strikes in bazaars and universities and widespread anti-regime slogans. International media, including the New York Times, have described the disparity as a stark insult to the population already struggling under skyrocketing prices and persistent economic hardship.

Analysts argue that prioritizing funding for Hezbollah over Iranian citizens demonstrates the regime’s misaligned priorities and could deepen social unrest and further destabilize the economy.
