Identified in Reggio Calabria as an unaccompanied minor, his tracks had been lost in Italy. German authorities have been registering him in Germany since 2017
The perpetrator of the Munich attack, a 24-year-old Afghan man arrested after running over the crowd with a car, had reportedly landed in Italy in November 2016. According to qualified sources, the young man had arrived in Reggio Calabria, where he was identified and photographed by the Italian authorities. At the time, he had claimed to be 15 years old, thus presenting himself as an unaccompanied minor.
In the same year, his name was registered in Brescia, but later his traces were lost in Italy. According to the German police, the young man had been in Germany since 2017, with no apparent connection to the Italian authorities.
His past and his movements are now the focus of the investigation, as Germany seeks to shed light on the motive for the attack and on any contacts or precedents that could clarify the context of the attack.
