The President of the European Commission will not attend the start of the Polish EU Council Presidency
Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has cancelled all her planned travel commitments for the first two weeks of January due to ‘severe pneumonia’. The 66-year-old European leader, recently confirmed for a second term, will not be able to travel to Gdansk for the formal start of the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, which is chaired by Poland. However, the visit to Poland has been postponed, not cancelled.
The planned trip to Lisbon was also cancelled. The news was released by EU executive sources, reported by the Europa Press agency.
