After the New Year’s Eve massacre in New Orleans, US authorities are alerting agents across the country to prevent new attacks
The FBI, in cooperation with the US Department of Homeland Security, has issued an alert for possible attacks similar to the one that occurred on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans, where Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd, killing 14 people. The warning, quoted by Fox News, was addressed to some 18,000 police officers nationwide, with a call to remain extremely vigilant. Authorities fear possible emulation of this tragic attack, although there are no specific threats currently reported.
Despite the concern, the American broadcaster made it clear that such warnings are common practice after attacks of this magnitude and are primarily intended to make the population and security forces aware of the need to remain alert.
Joe Biden and Jill Biden’s visit to New Orleans: support for the affected community
Next Monday, 6 January, US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill will travel to New Orleans to meet the families of the victims and offer their support to the community, which has been deeply affected by the tragic attack. During the visit, the president will also meet with local officials and members of the security forces involved in managing the crisis. Biden described the attack as a ‘tragic event’ and wished to express his sympathy to those affected.
No link to the Las Vegas explosion: White House clarification
In response to speculation that could link the New Orleans massacre with the Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas, which occurred in the same hours, Joe Biden stressed that there is no evidence that the two tragedies are in any way connected. ‘There is no evidence at this time to indicate a link between the two events,’ the president said, urging people to avoid hasty conclusions pending the final investigation.
