Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reiterates Italy’s commitment to Ukraine’s side for a peace that guarantees sovereignty and security. Meeting with President Zelensky during the leaders’ summit in London

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met in London with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the meeting of international leaders hosted by the United Kingdom. The meeting provided an opportunity to reiterate Italy’s strong support for Ukraine at a crucial time for the war-torn country. Meloni stressed Italy’s commitment, which stands alongside that of its European and Western allies and the United States, in the search for a solution that will bring an end to the conflict.

The importance of a stable and sustainable peace

During her conversation with Zelensky, Meloni emphasized the need to work for a peace that not only ends the war, but is also just and lasting. For the Prime Minister, it is crucial that Ukraine can look to the future with the confidence that it can maintain its sovereignty, ensure the safety of its citizens and enjoy its hard-won freedom. Italy, Meloni said, will continue to make its contribution to achieving these goals.

A shared commitment with international partners

Meloni then recalled how Italy’s commitment to Ukraine is part of a broader international partnership. European and Western partners, together with the United States, are working together to ensure that Ukraine can face the future with stability. This joint effort takes the form of diplomatic, economic and military support to enable Kiev to resist invasion and negotiate from a position of strength.

Lancaster House summit and international cooperation

Having concluded her meeting with Zelensky, the Prime Minister traveled to Lancaster House to attend the leaders’ summit on Ukraine. The event, organized by the UK, is an opportunity for key heads of state and government to discuss the next steps in resolving the conflict and supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction. Meloni expressed the need for ever-closer international coordination to achieve peace and security goals, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue among Western countries.
