US president urges peace deal and calls on Russia and Ukraine to negotiate immediately
Donald Trump has declared that he is ready to take drastic measures against Russia if the conflict with Ukraine does not reach a conclusion. In a post on his Truth social, the US president said he is seriously considering imposing ‘broad banking sanctions, other sanctions and tariffs’ on Russia, stressing that these measures will remain in place until a ceasefire and final peace agreement is reached.
Trump criticised the progress of the conflict, saying that Russia is ‘hammering’ Ukraine on the battlefield and urged both countries to sit down at the negotiating table ‘now, before it is too late’.
