Turkish president expresses support for a diplomatic peace and inclusion in Ukraine’s reconstruction

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasised the importance of an immediate ceasefire in the war between Ukraine and Russia as a crucial measure to strengthen mutual trust between the parties. During an EU online event, Erdogan said: ‘We support the cessation of air and sea aggression, and the establishment of an urgent ceasefire’. The statement underlines Turkey’s commitment to a diplomatic solution, emphasising the need for a ‘just, lasting and honourable peace’ that can only be achieved through strong diplomatic efforts on both sides.

Erdogan went on to emphasise Turkey’s role in Ukraine’s reconstruction process, stating that it is crucial for the country to be included in international initiatives such as the ‘European Peace Facility’. This initiative, he added, is crucial in contributing to the reconstruction and revitalisation of Ukraine after the devastating effects of the war, reiterating Turkey’s support for a future of stability and peace for the region.
