VIDEO – Problem on board a Boeing 717-200, passengers safely evacuated

Moments of terror on a Delta Air Lines flight departing from Atlanta and bound for Columbia, North Carolina. On Monday morning, the plane, a Boeing 717-200 carrying 94 passengers and five crew members, was forced to return to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for an emergency landing due to smoke detected inside the cabin.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the crew of Delta Flight 876 reported the presence of smoke, forcing the aircraft to reverse course and return to safety. Passengers were evacuated via emergency slides.

A passenger posted a video on social media showing the smoke-infested cabin, describing the crew’s instructions to ‘breathe through your clothes’ and to ‘stay low’.

The incident is under investigation by the FAA, which has recently had to deal with other incidents with Delta, including a plane that capsized while landing in Toronto last week, injuring 21 people, and a flight to Sydney that was forced to return to Los Angeles due to another case of smoke in the galley.
