The Israeli-US citizen, kidnapped on 7 October, has been transferred to the Red Cross in Gaza City. He will now be escorted out of the Strip. Previously Ofer Kalderon and Yarden Bibas had been freed

Keith Siegel, a 64-year-old Israeli-US citizen, was released and handed over to the Red Cross in Gaza City. The transfer took place on a stage set up in the city’s port, surrounded by masked Hamas gunmen. Siegel, who wore a black cap, appeared thin and pale, but able to walk independently.

The stage for the ceremony was decorated with pictures of slain Hamas military leaders and a slogan in Hebrew reading ‘Zionism will not win’. The release took place in an orderly manner, in contrast to the tensions surrounding the release of Arbel Yehoud and Gadi Mozes last Thursday, when the two were forced to march through a hostile crowd.

The IDF confirmed that the Red Cross had taken the hostage into custody and was now transferring him to the Israeli military forces and the Shin Bet, prior to his final exit from the Gaza Strip.

Siegel had been kidnapped together with his wife Aviva on 7 October 2023 during the Hamas attack on Kibbutz Kfar Aza. Aviva had already been freed in November 2023, during an earlier ceasefire.

This morning, around 7.30 am Italian time, the two other hostages Ofer Kalderon and Yarden Bibas had already been released.
