The current director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, will step down next month. Trump prepares a change of leadership with his loyalist, Kash Patel

FBI Director Christopher Wray will leave office next month, ending his planned term of office early until 2027, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced in a memo. The news follows the election of Donald Trump, who has already made public his intention to nominate Kash Patel, a close associate of his, as successor to lead the federal agency.

Trump celebrated Wray’s resignation by calling it ‘a great day for America’. In a post on Truth Social, the former president accused the FBI, under Wray’s leadership, of acting against him, including the controversial raid on his residence and involvement in impeachment proceedings. Trump also declared that under Patel’s leadership ‘law and order’ would be restored in the FBI.

Patel, a former federal prosecutor, was described by Trump as ‘the most qualified nominee in the agency’s history’. With the expected confirmation of the new director, the former president promises to return the FBI to its roots with a strong and fair justice system.
