Elon Musk to bid farewell to US government: resignation expected between May and June
The Tesla and X patron is ready to quit as “special employee” of the Trump administration. His criticism of the left and his role in the Department of Efficiency. The Washington Post relaunches a rumour already leaked earlier this month
Elon Musk is preparing to leave his role in the US federal government. This was reported by the Washington Post, according to which the natural end of the post as “special government employee” will expire in May, and the billionaire has no intention of renewing it. The exact date of the farewell has not yet been announced, but according to sources close to the dossier, the decision has already been made.
The reason? Musk is reportedly tired of being the target of “nasty and immoral attacks” from the political left. According to the newspaper, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX believes that his resignation will not weaken the role of the Doge, the Department of Efficiency’s operations team with which he has been associated during his tenure, and which would already be operating in numerous federal agencies.
This is not the first time that rumours have surfaced about a possible disengagement of Musk from the government apparatus. Already in early April, Politico had spoken of his exit from the Trump administration team, news then described as “rubbish” by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
Musk, in his government role, was able to benefit from a legal status that allowed him to temporarily circumvent certain restrictions related to conflicts of interest and ethical rules. An advantage valid for a limited period of 130 days, which is estimated to end between the end of May and the beginning of June.
The exit, if confirmed, will open up new questions about the tycoon’s direct influence in the Trump administration and future dynamics between the private sector and the government.
