US president reiterates his confidence in Pentagon chief accused of revealing details of a military operation against the Houthis in a private chat

Donald Trump continues to back Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who is at the centre of a national security scandal. This was stated by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt in an interview with Fox News, pointing out that the president “confirms full confidence” in the Pentagon chief.

Hegseth ended up under indictment for circulating, in a private chat where his wife and brother were also present, confidential details of an American attack against Houthi militias. The episode has raised strong controversy and concern within the administration and among international allies, but so far Trump has chosen to maintain his support for the Secretary.
