The Ukrainian president reacts to the former U.S. leader’s criticism of his handling of the war with Russia. U.S. “Helped Putin out of the isolation he was in”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded sharply to recent criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused him of inability to negotiate with Russia and of losing the support of his people. Trump argued that the war could have been avoided and that Ukraine would have spared territory and lives, adding that Zelensky enjoys a very low approval rating of 4 percent and wished for new elections in the country.

Zelensky dismissed Trump’s claims, saying that the former president lives “in the Russian disinformation space,” and stressing that Moscow has an interest in eliminating him, at least politically. “I am a very uncomfortable person for Vladimir Putin,” Zelensky said, reiterating the crucial role of American support in the fight against the Russian invasion.

Tensions between Kiev and Washington have also escalated over the issue of Ukrainian mineral resources, with Zelensky demanding more concrete security guarantees from the United States. The Ukrainian president has begun negotiations with European leaders for possible military support if the U.S. does not guarantee it.

Meanwhile, a poll conducted by the International Institute of Sociology in Kiev found that Zelensky currently enjoys 57 percent approval among the Ukrainian population, a figure up from last December despite the country’s recent military difficulties.
