US Secretary of State and Israeli PM discuss regional security and the Iranian threat. Israeli PM makes Trump’s words his own if hostages don’t all return ‘We will unleash hell’

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated the US position on the situation in Gaza during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Rubio emphasised that President Donald Trump ‘has clearly articulated his vision for Gaza: Hamas cannot continue to be the dominant force there’. Rubio, who arrived in Israel overnight, also addressed with Netanyahu the critical situations in Syria and Lebanon.

‘We discussed the importance of the fall of Assad in Syria,’ Rubio said, ’but replacing one armed force with another does not represent positive progress. In Lebanon, the goal is the disarmament of Hezbollah.’

During the joint press conference, Netanyahu reiterated the strong cooperation between Israel and the United States. ‘President Trump and I work in full harmony,’ said the Israeli PM, ’and although we cannot always share everything with the public, we have a common strategy, even in the face of the worst threats.’

Netanyahu added that ‘Iran remains the main source of instability in the region’ and praised Trump as ‘the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House’. Both leaders agreed on the need to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and to stop the expansion of Iranian influence in the Middle East.
