Protests in Chicago against Donald Trump’s Inauguration
Protesters march in downtown Chicago in opposition to Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration, with concerns over impending immigration raids
Protesters gathered in downtown Chicago today to protest Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. Demonstrators gathered in Federal Plaza, displaying signs with messages such as ‘No more I.C.E, no more raids’ and ‘Defend democracy’, while police patrolled the streets on bicycles.
March Towards Trump Tower
Participants were seen marching down State Street and in front of Trump Tower in Chicago. The U.S. Palestinian Community Network said it was among 70 advocacy groups supporting or participating in this planned protest.
Concerns over Anti-Immigration Raids
This protest comes as the city prepares for the possibility of mass immigration raids planned for Tuesday. The Trump administration has announced plans to step up operations to arrest unauthorised immigrants in several major US cities. Chicago has been warned that it will be among the first cities to be targeted for mass deportation efforts.
