Israeli delegation to Qatar to negotiate ceasefire with Hamas
High-level Israeli delegation sent to Qatar to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The team includes senior Israeli intelligence figures
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that a high-level delegation has been sent to Qatar to join diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire with Hamas. The Times of Israel reported this. The delegation will consist of Mossad chief David Barnea, Shin Bet director Ron Bar, Major General (retired) Nitzan Alon, who is a key figure in the IDF’s hostage management, and Netanyahu’s political advisor Ophir Falk.
Netanyahu’s decision came after an assessment of the situation regarding the ongoing hostage talks. The PM attended a meeting together with Defence Minister Israel Katz, Israeli security officials, and representatives of the Biden and Trump administrations. On the same day, Netanyahu met with Steve Witkoff, the Trump administration’s new envoy for the Middle East, in Jerusalem.
According to sources close to Hamas, an agreement was reached, but Netanyahu’s final approval is still awaited. Channel 13 news reported that there has been progress, albeit cautious, in the negotiations mediated by Qatar.
