In a memorandum delivered to negotiators in Kiev, Moscow sets strict conditions for a truce. The Ukrainian president calls on the United States to intensify sanctions, while Trump says he is open to peace talks in Turkey

Russia today delivered a memorandum to Ukrainian negotiators with specific conditions for a ceasefire, including the lifting of martial law in Ukraine and the demobilisation of troops. This was reported by the Tass news agency, adding that Moscow is also proposing the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from areas partially occupied by Russia.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on US President Donald Trump to impose tougher sanctions on Russia to force it to stop the conflict, accusing Moscow of only wanting a ‘short break’ and not a real truce. ‘We expect Trump to support strong measures to push Russia to end the war or at least move to the first phase, which is a ceasefire,’ Zelensky said during a press conference.

For his part, Trump, according to the White House, has shown himself willing to accept Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s invitation to participate in trilateral peace talks in Turkey with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. ‘The president is open to the idea, provided that both leaders sit at the negotiating table,’ said spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
