Mohamed Sabry Soliman allegedly targeted a march in support of hostages in Gaza: he had been planning the attack for a year

Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian citizen believed to be responsible for the flamethrower attack in Colorado during a demonstration in support of hostages held in the Gaza Strip, has been charged with a hate crime. The attack left at least eight people injured, some of them seriously.

According to US authorities, Soliman had been planning the attack for about a year. The Department of Homeland Security has stated that the man is in the United States ‘illegally’.

The attack took place during a peaceful march, when the attacker suddenly activated a homemade device similar to a flamethrower, striking numerous participants. Law enforcement officers intervened quickly, arresting Soliman at the scene.

Investigators are now reconstructing the network of contacts and any ideological motivations behind the act, which has been classified as a hate crime due to the political nature of the demonstration that was targeted.
