Despite the US raids and the operation against the Houthis, Yemeni leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi reiterated the group’s ability to resist and continue with missile attacks, especially towards Israel

Yemen’s Houthi leader, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, stated that ‘US aggression against us will not affect our capabilities’, commenting on US air raids in recent hours against Houthi positions. The US had announced a targeted operation against the Houthis in mid-month, with the aim of ending attacks against vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The raids, mainly focused on Saa’da and other regions in northern Yemen, hit military infrastructure and Houthi commanders, but failed to deter the rebel group, which continues to launch missiles towards Israel. According to the Wall Street Journal, merchant ships avoid the Red Sea because of instability in the area. Furthermore, an attempted attack on a US aircraft carrier off Yemen and missiles fired towards Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport were claimed by the Houthis.

Despite the mixed results, as reported by the New York Times and other observers, many believe that US air operations are unlikely to defeat the Houthis, who have shown that they can adapt to military campaigns that are hostile to them.

Finally, leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi reiterated that the Yemeni nation will not change its position in the face of US aggression, despite the bombings and the humanitarian consequences the raids are causing on the ground.
