Trump vs Associated Press: barred from Air Force One over ‘Gulf of America’ dispute
Donald Trump’s reprisals against Associated Press reporters continue. The White House expels AP reporters from Air Force One for refusing to adopt the new Gulf of Mexico designation
The tension between Donald Trump and the press continues to escalate. This time, the target is the Associated Press, guilty of not wanting to comply with the White House’s request to call the Gulf of Mexico the ‘Gulf of America’. As a result of this refusal, the news agency was banned from not only the Oval Office but also from Air Force One.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich explained the reasons behind this decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Budowich accused the Associated Press of promoting misinformation by ignoring what he called the ‘legitimate geographical name change’. He further stated that the agency’s choice is not only divisive, but shows a clear commitment to spreading misinformation.
The move is just the latest chapter in the battle between Trump and some media outlets, a sign of how the relationship between the government and the media remains highly contentious under his leadership.
