Summit for peace in Ukraine, negotiations on territories and ceasefire

US President Donald Trump has announced that the summit with Vladimir Putin will be held on Friday, August 15, in Alaska. The confirmation came in a post on Truth, in which the White House chief called the meeting “highly anticipated” and promised further details shortly.

From doubts about Italy to the choice of Alaska
In the hours leading up to the announcement, Trump had hinted that the venue could be Italy, which he described as “very popular for a number of reasons.” He then clarified that the delay in organizing the summit was due to security issues, reiterating that both he and Putin want to meet as soon as possible to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

Hypothesis of agreement and exchange of territories
According to Bloomberg, the United States and Russia are negotiating an agreement that would allow Moscow to maintain control of the areas occupied by the 2022 invasion in exchange for the cessation of attacks on Kherson and Zaporizhzhia and the freezing of fighting on the current front line. Trump spoke of a possible “exchange of territories to the benefit of both sides” and said he was convinced he had “a chance” to stop the conflict, saving both Russian and Ukrainian lives.

The context of the negotiations
The US president reiterated that without Washington’s intervention, the conflict could have escalated into a world war. The goal now is to reach a formal agreement, which could be signed shortly, to end a war that has lasted for over three and a half years.
