President-elect announces on Truth the appointment of three stars as ambassadors to restore Hollywood to its glory

Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States, aims to conquer Hollywood with an unprecedented move. On his Truth social, Trump announced the appointment of Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight as ‘special ambassadors’ for the movie town.

‘It is an honour for me to announce that Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone will be special ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,’ he said. ‘They will be my special envoys for the purpose of making Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business to foreign countries over the past four years, even bigger, better and stronger than before!’

Trump added that the three actors will not only be symbolic figures, but real advisors to revitalise the American film industry. ‘These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will make sure that what they suggest comes to fruition. It will once again be, as for the United States of America itself, the Golden Age of Hollywood!’

The choice is not entirely surprising: Jon Voight, a well-known Trump supporter, has repeatedly come out in favour of his policies; Mel Gibson, an icon of action cinema also supported the tycoon in the last election; Sylvester Stallone, with his legendary characters like Rocky and Rambo, represents the American dream.

Trump, with this move, seeks to intercept the discontent of part of the Hollywood industry, which in recent years has faced challenges such as global competition, the scriptwriters‘ and actors’ strike, and a change in the way films are enjoyed. The announcement promises to trigger debates both in Hollywood and in the political landscape. It remains to be seen how this strategy will affect the future of the US film industry and whether the president-elect’s choices will really lead to a new ‘golden age’ for American cinema.
