The White House is considering a three-way meeting, but Moscow rejects European and Ukrainian involvement

The meeting scheduled for Friday, August 15, in Alaska between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin may not remain an exclusive face-to-face meeting. The US administration is working on the possibility of a three-way summit, also including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. US Vice President JD Vance confirmed that Zelensky’s name is already on the White House agenda, stressing that they are trying to “organize the calendar” to assess when the leaders could discuss a peace agreement.

At the moment, Washington is ruling out a direct meeting between Zelensky and Putin, considering it “unproductive.” Trump and Vance are aiming for a solution that will end hostilities, even considering territorial exchanges. “The agreement will not make either the Ukrainians or the Russians super happy. They will be dissatisfied,” Vance predicted.

Zelensky, for his part, fears too soft an approach toward Moscow and warns: “We know that Russia wants to deceive America, but we will not allow it. If it does not stop the war, its economy must be stopped.”

Europe is demanding security guarantees for Kiev and opposes negotiations conducted solely by the US and Russia. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz calls for a ceasefire and genuine peace negotiations, describing it as “unacceptable” to decide territorial issues while ignoring Ukrainians and Europeans.

Moscow, on the other hand, brands the EU’s involvement as “intolerable interference” and calls the European statement “another Nazi leaflet,” in the words of Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who accuses Brussels and Kiev of wanting to put pressure on Russia and continue military support for Kiev.
