Announcement by US Special Envoy Tom Barrack: agreement between Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, also signed by Turkey and Jordan
Israel and Syria have reached a ceasefire agreement. This was announced by the US ambassador to Turkey and US special envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack. According to X, the agreement was reached between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, with the support of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Turkey, Jordan and other neighbouring countries have also signed up to the agreement. ‘We call on Druze, Bedouins, Sunnis and all minorities to lay down their arms and contribute to the construction of a new Syrian identity, based on peace and prosperity shared with neighbours,’ Barrack added in his message.
The agreement represents a crucial step in one of the most unstable theatres in the Middle East, opening up possible regional diplomatic developments.
