Alex Marquez sets the fastest time despite a crash. World leader Marc follows him at +0.357. Quartararo third, at 3pm the decisive pre-qualifying for access to Q2
Marquez double in the first free practice of the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix. At the Jerez circuit, Alex Marquez set the fastest time of 1:36.831 despite a crash that forced him to change bikes. Behind him was his brother Marc Marquez, the current world championship leader, trailing by +0.357.
Third was Fabio Quartararo on a Yamaha, followed by Maverick Viñales (KTM), Joan Mir (Honda) and Jack Miller (Yamaha). Only seventh was Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia on his Ducati, who appeared to be struggling for race pace.
Johann Zarco, Alex Rins and Franco Morbidelli complete the top ten, the latter in tenth. Just outside the top ten are Aleix Espargaró (wild card on Honda), Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi.
At 3pm the pre-qualifying session is scheduled, which will determine the top ten riders qualified directly for Saturday’s Q2. At stake is access to the decisive phase for pole position.
