Tragedy in New York City, where a helicopter crashed today into the waters of the Hudson River at Pier 40, causing at least one fatality. According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft reportedly broke in two before crashing into the river, causing panic among those present.

The exact number of people on board is still unclear: US media sources speak of between five and seven passengers. Rescue operations are still ongoing and the Coast Guard has temporarily blocked boat traffic in the area to facilitate the recovery effort.

Authorities are trying to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and ascertain the cause of the crash. Divers and specialised underwater search equipment were also on the scene.
