Disruptions also in Zurich and Geneva, 510,000 passengers affected
The 24-hour strike called by the Verdi union at eleven German airports has begun, with public service employees, ground staff and air security joining in. The strike, part of two different wage disputes, is paralysing air transport in Germany. The airport association Adv expects more than 3,400 cancelled flights and 510,000 passengers affected.
The stoppage involves strategic airports such as Frankfurt, where no passengers will be able to board and transit flights will also be affected. The airport workers will hold a demonstration during the day. Meanwhile, there are also consequences in Switzerland: 66 flights have been cancelled at Zurich airport and 14 in Geneva, affecting companies such as Swiss, Easyjet, Eurowings and Lufthansa.
