The US president intervenes in the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas with a provocative and unilateral message

For Trump, the tensions pervading the Middle East are clearly not enough. For the US President, it seems necessary to throw more petrol on the fire. The occasion today is the release of three Israeli hostages, as provided for in the agreements of the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which the New York tycoon is trying to condition at all costs with his unilateral proposals.

The US president, in fact, commented on the release of the three Israeli hostages, writing on the social site Truth, which he owns, that ‘the situation is different from Hamas’s statement this week that it will not release any hostages’, a statement that Hamas itself had already modified in the following days, saying that it was ready to release the three, say three, Israeli hostages.
‘The hostages seem to be in good condition’ and “it is now up to Israel to decide what to do about the deadline I set (so he set, not previously agreed upon by the mediators, and the main Hamas-Israel parties) for the release of all the hostages today, by 12 noon (US time, 6pm in Italy): the United States will support whatever decision they take” in Israel.

An incendiary intervention in the heart of the conflict

Trump’s behaviour raises questions. At the risk of compromising the already fragile situation, the former US president has gone beyond the established balances, intervening directly and without mediation. His statements not only ignore the delicate negotiations underway, but also risk fuelling further tensions between the warring factions, increasing the instability of an area already devastated by violence and war.

In short, once again Trump is taking the most delicate situations to the extreme with incendiary tones, without caring about the damage such behaviour can cause in the already complicated Middle East risiko.
