The suspect allegedly lowered his mask during check-in at a New York hostel, allowing the camera to capture his face
New York police appear to be getting closer and closer to identifying the man suspected of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson during a ‘premeditated attack’ in front of a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning. Investigative sources revealed to ABC News that the man allegedly lowered his mask while standing at the check-in desk of a hostel on the Upper West Side, allowing the surveillance camera to capture his face.
The gesture allegedly occurred at the request of the receptionist, who asked to ‘see his smile’. Thanks to this image, investigators are comparing the suspect’s face with records from other hostels in the area. The suspect allegedly registered using a New Jersey ID that was not his own and only started staying at the HI New York City Hostel on 30 November, despite having arrived in New York a month earlier from Atlanta, travelling on a Greyhound bus.
The murder, described as ‘brazen and targeted’ by Commissioner Jessica Tisch, was committed with a firearm fired at close range. At the scene of the crime, shell casings were found with the words ‘deny’, ‘defend’ and ‘depose’, inscriptions that investigators are analysing to understand the possible motive, which at the moment remains unknown. The gun used in the murder has not yet been found.
