Downing Street confirms imminent London-Washington deal: talks progressing rapidly, updates expected by the end of the day
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to announce today a major trade deal with the US concerning tariffs between the two countries. The news comes directly from Downing Street, which called Washington ‘an indispensable ally for the UK’s economic and national security’.
According to a government spokesman, negotiations to finalise the deal are progressing apace: ‘Talks between our countries to reach an agreement on tariffs are advancing rapidly. The prime minister will provide official updates later today’.
The agreement, if confirmed, would represent a significant step in the strengthening of the post-Brexit bilateral relationship between London and Washington, in an international context in which economic security and strategic cooperation are once again taking centre stage on the agendas of Western leaders.
