Gérard Depardieu’s trial for sexual assault opens in Paris
The actor denies all charges and faces first courtroom case
The trial of Gérard Depardieu, accused of sexual assault by two women, has begun in Paris. The incidents allegedly took place during the shooting of the film Les Volets Verts by director Jean Becker in 2021. Prosecutors report that the alleged abuse included obscene comments and harassment.
Depardieu, 76, with a long film career behind him, denied all the accusations and appeared in court to defend himself. Although he has been accused of inappropriate behaviour by about 20 women, this is the first case to be brought to court. In October 2023, the actor had published a letter in Le Figaro in which he reiterated: ‘Never, but never, have I abused a woman’. The trial, originally scheduled for October 2024, was postponed due to his health condition.
