Emails emerged in a London court case call into question the Duke of York’s version of events

New shadows are gathering over Prince Andrew, already excluded from the Royal Family after his involvement in the scandal linked to financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Documents that have emerged from an ongoing legal action in London suggest that the Duke of York has maintained contact with Epstein well beyond the date he stated in the past.

The emails contradicting Prince Andrew

According to emails filed in the lawsuit involving Jes Staley, former chief executive of Barclays, against the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, Prince Andrew continued to communicate with Epstein even after 2010, the year he claimed to have severed all ties with him.

A message dated February 2011 shows the Duke of York writing to the American businessman: ‘We stay in close contact and will play some more soon’. The use of allusive language and the confidential tone contradict the official version given by the third-born son of Queen Elizabeth II.

A past that continues to haunt him

These revelations represent just the latest blow to Prince Andrew’s already compromised reputation. After the Epstein scandal, the Duke of York was gradually ousted from public life and official duties in the royal family.

In 2022 he settled a multi-million settlement with Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims who had accused him of sexual abuse when she was still a minor. Although Andrea never admitted any responsibility, the affair led Queen Elizabeth to revoke his military titles and royal patronage, with the Palace officially distancing itself from him.

Involvement in a national security case

In addition to his ties with Epstein, Prince Andrew was also involved in a national security case that further undermined his position within the Royal Family. In 2023, in fact, it was revealed that he had had economic and personal relations with a Chinese businessman accused by British intelligence of being a spy in the service of Beijing.

This relationship raised concerns at Buckingham Palace, leading to the exclusion of the Duke of York from official Royal Family events, including last year’s Christmas celebrations.

An increasingly uncertain future

Prince Andrew continues to live in a kind of enforced isolation, away from the public scene and with an increasingly marginal role within the British monarchy. Despite his attempts to rehabilitate himself, new revelations like this one risk making his return to a position of prestige impossible.
