Tehran’s Supreme Leader issues a direct warning as US aircraft carriers deploy to the Gulf amid nuclear negotiations

Warning over US carrier deployment – Warships are dangerous, “but what is more dangerous is the weapon that can sink them at sea.” With these words, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, warned the United States while referring to the two US aircraft carriers, Ford and Lincoln, deployed to the Gulf by Donald Trump as pressure to push Tehran toward a nuclear agreement.

The remarks were delivered during a speech in Tabriz marking the anniversary of the 1978 anti-Shah uprising and coinciding with the second round of US–Iran talks in Geneva.

Reaction to US military claims

Khamenei responded directly to repeated US statements about military strength. “They say their army is the strongest in the world. Well, the strongest army in the world could sometimes suffer such a severe blow that it may never stand up again,” Khamenei said, according to Mehr News Agency.

He also referred to recent US presidential statements, saying that Washington had acknowledged it had been unable to eliminate the Islamic Republic for 47 years.
“I say: you will not be able to do it either,” he added.

Accusations of US pressure on Iran

Khamenei accused the United States of trying to dominate Iran through alternating threats and directives.

“A nation like ours, with this culture, this history and these noble teachings, will not pledge allegiance to corrupt individuals like those currently in power in America,” he said.

Nuclear rights and deterrence policy

The Supreme Leader reaffirmed that Iran’s right to nuclear energy, including uranium enrichment, is recognized under international rules, including those of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He described external pressure to limit these rights as “illogical behavior.” Khamenei also stressed that maintaining military deterrence capabilities is essential for national security, warning that countries lacking adequate defense tools become vulnerable.
