Russia expels two alleged British intelligence agents

Moscow orders them to leave the country within two weeks, accused of intelligence activities

Russia has announced the expulsion of two British diplomats accused of being involved in espionage activities. The FSB said the two, identified as Alkesh Odedra and Michael Skinner, must leave the country within two weeks. The charges relate to providing false statements and undeclared intelligence activity under the cover of the British embassy in Moscow.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian special agencies were ensuring the country’s security and that counter-intelligence operations had exposed the alleged espionage activity. The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned a representative of the British embassy to formally protest, reiterating that Moscow will not tolerate undeclared intelligence activities.

The British Foreign Office dismissed the accusations as ‘malicious and unfounded’, pointing out that Russia has made similar accusations in the past without foundation.
