Ukrainian president criticises Trump for talks with Putin and calls for a central role in negotiations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated that Ukraine will not accept any bilateral negotiations between the US and Russia without its participation. The Kiev leader expressed dissatisfaction with the telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, pointing out that the US president had assured that he would talk to both leaders at the same time.
‘It was not pleasant to be put on the back burner,’ Zelensky commented, reiterating that any talks with Moscow should only take place after a clear plan to stop Putin has been defined.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has started preparations for the Russian delegation to take part in the negotiations with the US, but spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the meeting between Trump and Putin could take months to organise.
On the military front, Kiev maintains a strategic presence in the Russian Kursk region, which is considered a lever for future negotiations. The commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, confirmed control over some 500 square kilometres in Russian territory, downgrading earlier figures that spoke of an area of 1,400 square kilometres.
